DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to the relocation of US 20 in Hamilton County on approximately July 1987, the official description of this route should be revised to reflect the new alignment.  At the same time the old section of US 20 became Unsigned Iowa 928.

 

US 20 begins at the Webster-Hamilton County Line: then goes east to Hamilton-Hardin County Line.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended to approve revising the description of US 20 in Hamilton County and to include the attached new description in the Primary Road System.

 

New Description - US 20 and its extension in Hamilton County described as follows:

 

Beginning at the Hamilton-Webster County line near the W ¼ Corner NW ¼ of Section 7-T88N-R26W; thence easterly to a point near the center of Section 8-T88N-R26W (west interchange with Iowa 17): then easterly through Sections 8, 9, 10 and 11-T88N-R26W to the west corporation line of the City of Webster City connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Webster City:

 

Beginning on the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

Due to the relocation of US 20 Hamilton County, the official description of this route should be revised to reflect the new alignment. The last portion of US 20 to be completed in Hamilton County extends eastward from the Interstate 35 interchange to the Hardin County line and was opened to traffic on October 7, 1991.

It is recommended to approve revising the description of US 20 in Hamilton County and to include the attached new description in the Primary Road System.


 

New Description ‑ US 20 and its extension in Hamilton County described as follows:

 

Beginning at the Hamilton‑Webster County line near the W ¼ Corner NW ¼ of Section 7‑T88N‑R26W; thence southeasterly to a point near the center of Section 8‑T88N‑R26W (west interchange with Iowa 17); thence easterly substantially following the center line of Sections 9, 10 and 11‑T88N‑R26W to the west corporation line of Webster City.

 

Webster City:

 

Beginning on the west corporation line of Webster City near the N ¼ Corner SW ¼ of Section 11‑T88N‑R26W; thence easterly leaving and reentering the corporate limits in said Sec.11; thence continuing east through Section 12‑T88N‑R26W to a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 7‑T88N‑R25W (east interchange with Iowa 17); thence east to the east corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑20‑0 (26), between the City of Webster City and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of US 20 from the west corporation line of the City of Webster City easterly to its east corporation line (2nd Street) to city jurisdiction by December 1, 1980.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑17‑3 (27)‑‑2M‑40, between Hamilton County and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred county road R-21 from approximately 100 feet south of the center of Section 8‑T88N‑R26W north to a point approximately 150 feet north of the N ¼ Corner Section 5‑T88N‑R26W to state jurisdiction on July‑23, 1980.  This section is now designated as US 20.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number TJ‑42O‑1 (1)‑‑2M‑40, between Hamilton County and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred county road D‑20 from near the N ¼ Corner Section 21‑T89N‑R23W easterly to a point approximately 700 feet east of the N ¼ Corner Section 22‑T89N‑R23W to state jurisdiction on July 23, 1980.  This section is now designated as US 20.

 

Due to its relocation in the Webster City area, US 20 in Hamilton County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included in the primary road system.

 

US 20 begins on the Hamilton‑Webster county line at the City of Duncombe and proceeds easterly via the City of Webster City to the Hamilton‑Hardin county line approximately three miles northeast of the City of Williams.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of US 20 in Hamilton County from the primary road system and approve including the attached new description.
